Best Characters Tier List (PvE)

Tier List Ranking Criteria

Most of the characters in MementoMori have very specific uses for the different situations that the game throws at its players. Though we have ranked characters according to what we think deals the most damage or the most utility, even a character ranked lower on our list may be the most useful character to use in a given scenario.

Still, the characters listed here have been sorted in order of how many PvE scenarios you can use them in, as well as their general availability.

Tier List Placement Explanation

SS Tier Characters

Character Tier Placement Reasoning
Fia • Fia has a powerful attack with self-healing through HP drain, another attack whose damage scales with how much punishment she's already taken, as well as passive skills that boost her HP and ability to counter enemy attacks along with that of her allies. It's an impressive skillset overall, but you'll need to invest heavily in Fia to make her worth using in PvE.
Sivi • Good support witch who acts both as a tank and a buffer for your slowest characters. Also has self-healing skills that let her last longer through a fight.
• Despite being another limited SR unit, Sivi is already decent enough to use at her base rarity and only grows better from there. We recommend trying to get one or two copies of her whenever her banner is rerun.
Cordie • Great attacker with skills that buff her ATK straight-up without any turn requirements.
• Transitions into a good debuffer when you get her unique weapon, which can shave off 80% of the enemy's DEF.
• Easy to level up for F2P players because you can get copies of her from the shop with Space-Time coins.

S Tier Characters

Character Tier Placement Reasoning
Primavera • Primavera is great to bring along because she can inflict the Faint debuff on enemies, effectively stunning them.
• This is on top of her high SPD stat, ensuring that she'll be one of the first witches in your party that will strike (and, hopefully, stun) your opponents.
• She also has a party-wide ATK buff and a potential 'Buff Immunity' debuff that keeps her enemies from getting their own buffs.
Mimi • A good witch to bring along if you need a secondary attacker. Mimi works somewhat like Florence in that the number of her attacks increases the more enemies she defeats.
• Her true value, however, is in how she can inflict Resonance on enemies with the most DEF and the least DEF. If the enemy with the least DEF is attacked, the enemy with the most DEF takes 50% of the damage. This makes her great to bring along if you're up against enemy parties with tanky units.
Nina • Nina is great in that she's hard to hit and can tank damage if she does get hit.
• She can also take debuffs inflicted on her and hurl them back at the enemy, and steal any buffs that the enemy has.
• Best to use her against enemies that like using buffs and debuffs. Otherwise, it would be better to bring units that can deal more damage or buff your party instead.
Merlyn • Great support character whose prime use is to boost your main attacker's CRIT chance by 20%. Great to pair with Florence especially, but suitable for other attackers as well.
• Easy to level up because you can also get copies of her from the Shop with Space-Time coins.
Florence • Florence's value is in the increasing number of attacks she makes the more critical hits she successfully does. This is why pairing her with Merlyn gives you one of the best attackers in the game for PvE.
• Like Cordie, she also has great CRIT and ATK self-buffs that are not dependent on how long she remains alive in battle.
• The issue in using her arises when she's matched against faster opponents who can outspeed her, as well as opponents with high EVD that can avoid her attacks.
Elfriede • Good retaliator against enemies that likes to inflict debuffs. Her skill, 'Demonic Judgement' increases her ATK the more debuffs the enemy party gets. Meanwhile, 'Prayer for Salvation' helps her party's own ability to inflict debuffs.
• She also has powerful self-buffs that increase her ATK the more allies she has that have skill buffs, as well as DEF buffs and damage cuts that can keep her alive.
Rusalka • Another limited SR that could be worth getting because of her ATK debuff and PM. Def Break buffs, on top of having the ability to revive herself then spam her skills for heavy damage.
• Has the potential to be a main attacker. If you can somehow get her defeated on the first turn so her passive kicks in, then have someone buff her ATK stat on the second turn before she moves, she'll do quite a lot of damage.
Cerberus • A potent secondary attacker who's best used as an executioner of enemies that have been damaged by your main attacker. However, if you want all of the bells and whistles that Cerberus has such as increased CRIT chance and 40% ATK buffs, you'll have to invest in her heavily. This is only compounded by the fact that she's a Radiance unit (which means she needs more copies to awaken her and get her to LR rarity).
Belle • Works somewhat similarly to Florence in that she gets an added benefit whenever she successfully makes a critical hit - this time, it's an ATK stat buff. The more critical hits she makes, the more powerful she gets.
• She can also nullify lethal moves with her Vengeful Blaze passive, though it does have very specific conditions (she has to have below 50% HP, and the attack must damage her more than 30% of her HP).
Matilda • Works as a dominating single-target damage and team support. her active skill delivers single-taget damage while simultaneously buffing both her and her strongest teammate's attack, boosting the team's overall damage output.
• She is a good DPS support who is great to pair with Cordie or Florence.
• Her shield becomes powerful, reaching up to 40% of damage deflection at max level depending on how many allies she has in the field.

A Tier Characters

Character Tier Placement Reasoning
Lunalynn • Good buffer and debuffer who can poison enemies and keep them from using their skills with Silence debuffs, while increasing the P. DEF of her allies.
• She can also act as a tank with her last passive skill cutting the damage she takes on top of increasing her HP drain.
Natasha • A very powerful attacker only limited by how hard it is to get copies of her and level up consistently for F2P players. You'll need to buff her STR stats with runes and equipment so that she can consistently inflict 'Faint' debuffs on her enemies while dealing massive damage with her attacks. Her ATK (and later CRIT damage) self-buff only makes her more powerful.
• She can also tank hits quite well with her ability to cut any damage she receives by 40%.
Soltina • Soltina is a tanky unit that can take a lot of punishment. At the same time, she'll inflict Sleep and Faint debuffs on the enemy, opening them up to attacks from your main attacker.
Mertillier • Mertillier is great to have if only because of her 'Maintenance' skill. Not only does it lower your main attacker's skill cooldown, but it also boosts their ATK by 65%.
• She can also be quite a tank with her Shield, healing, and Debuff RES-related abilities.
Dian • Dian's primary use is to help your main attacker survive potentially devastating attacks by increasing their EVD with her passive skill 'Heart of Servitude'.
• She can also be a potent unit when paired with other witches that already have high EVD like Nina. She also becomes more useful in the later PvE stages where you'll want your main attacker to avoid getting hit for as long as possible before they wipe out the enemy party.
Rean • Rean is a potent secondary attacker who can defeat two enemies simultaneously with the right setup.
• However, her passive skill 'Feisty Determination', which increases her CRIT chance, only kicks in when she has less than 50% HP, which can be rare going into the late game.
Fenrir • Her most useful ability is to decrease the skill cooldown of the allies next to her, which is useful if you want your main attacker to deal a lot of damage very quickly.
• She also has good support abilities with her healing skills and how she can dispel debuffs inflicted on her and one ally (later two).
Amleth • Amleth is good to bring along if you want to have a great retaliator in the party. She can survive party-wiping attacks with just 1 hit point, and her own ATK scales with how much HP she still has left. Though she may not be able to start a battle, she can definitely finish it.
Asahi • A great unit to field against other units that rely on ramping damage to win battles, such as Illya's God's Curse form as well as other damage dealers such as Florence. She can ramp up her ATK damage quicker than these other units
Summer Cordie • Summer Cordie's first skill can help support your main attacker with a 25% ATK boost as well as a 25% EVD buff. That alone already makes getting at least one copy of her worth it.
• She also has other good skills such as healing one ally with the lowest HP (her second active skill), another ATK buff equal to 20% of Cordie's own ATK stat (first passive skill), as well as P. DEF and M. DEF buffs whenever she attacks (second passive skill). But these skills only become more useful if you get more copies of her and boost her ATk by gearing her up with good gear that should otherwise just go to your main attacker.
Apostle Rosalie • A support unit whose main deal is to shield the two allies adjacent to her while stacking [Memory] buffs that increase every time her party is afflicted by a debuff from an active skill.
• Once Apostle Rosalie's [Memory] stack reaches 15, she deals 8 attacks to enemies at random and decreases the skill cooldown of the two allies next to her by 1 turn.
Eir • Similar to Primavera in that they both attack units directly in front of them, though Eir has a stronger emphasis on inflicting and capitalizing on Sleep and other movement-hindering debuffs.
• However, this dependence on action-hindering debuffs makes her vulnerable to teams with Cordie, as well as teams with Fortina - both of whom have countermeasures versus action-hindering debuffs.
Paladea • Paladea is a powerful offensive buffer but she needed a particular team to work on. Her first skill can be used for PvE.
• She is a limited Chaos character, she will need a lot of investment to build.
Yuni • Yuni's combination of potent and diverse healing, defensive capabilities, and team-empowering support makes her a valuable character in PvE content. Her abilities to keep her team healthy, cleanse debuffs, and provide additional HP make her a reliable asset.
• While she might not offer the strongest offensive capabilities or strategic depth compared to other S-tier characters, her consistent and reliable support makes her an excellent choice for most PvE situations.
Tainted Iris • Tainted Iris is an interesting unit in that she deals heavy damage and protects your main attacker.
• However, if you need ways to keep your main attacker protected, there are other ways to do that without having to pull for limited SR units in the first place.
Winter Amour • Support unit who gives out SPD buffs, as well as a CRIT chance buff depending on whether or not she makes a critical hit herself with her first skill. If she gets defeated, she revives herself and gives ATK buffs to your units with the highest ATK in the party (one of which should be your main attacker).
• However, you will need two copies of her, along with two R-rarity witches that have been awakened to SR rarity, to get her beyond level 120 and get that ATK buff and the stats that come with the rarity boost.
Luke • Luke can be a support unit because of her ATK debuffs (she can cut the ATK of the enemy with the highest STR by 50%). Her other skills, meanwhile, revolve around her inflicting Critical Hits. This could've made her a good attacker, but you'll have better results using a non-limited unit like Cordie or Florence instead.
• She could be more useful if you happen to have her and are up against enemies that like to use Shields, though.
Carol • Useful buffer and debuffer with good sustain through self-healing. Carol can inflict Silence debuffs on potentially three enemies at once, as well as dispel any buffs they have or lower their DEF by 40% instead. Meanwhile, she can give all her allies 25% DEF buffs right at the start of the battle.
• At a minimum, we recommend getting two copies of her, then awakening her up to SSR rarity using SR versions of R witches to make her useful.
Fortina • Healing in general isn't really all that potent in MementoMori, and Fortina suffers from this as well. If you must have a healer for one reason or another (there shouldn't be), then use a non-limited unit instead.
• But we will note that if you do have Fortina and have been able to awaken her all the way to at least UR rarity, her ability to give two shields to all members of the party on top of regenerating health could come in handy. Perhaps more importantly, she has the ability to make the witch with the highest ATK in her party immune to movement-hindering debuffs.
A.A. • A.A. is supposed to be a tanky witch that heals herself and cuts the damage dealt by enemies. However, her costs and the difference in power levels between your party and enemy parties in PvE don't make her a viable unit. If you need a witch that cuts damage from enemies, we suggest using Hathor instead.
Ophelia • Ophelia could be a decent unit if you happen to have her and need someone to take hits for your main attacker. But there are also other ways to protect your main attacker in PvE without having to get her in the first place.
Armstrong • A tanky attacker that would be nice to have, but other units deal just as much or even more damage without having to use as many resources to awaken her. She does have a CRIT chance buff for your fastest witch, however. However, other witches also do that.
Sophia • Sophia is a good damage dealer with her ATK buffs, multiple attacks, and a skill that can heal all her allies based on how much damage she dealt. This is on top of her HP and CRIT RES buffs, as well as her Debuff ACC debuffs. But the catch is that they're only unlocked when you've invested heavily in her. Being a limited SR, Sophia's copies can be tough to come by.
• Sophia also doesn't have any CRIT chance buffs, so you'll have to give her good gear to boost her stats.
Summer Sabrina • Summer Sabrina is a good support with her ability to inflict Faint debuffs on enemies both as her first skill as well as when she's defeated. On top of that, she can also dispel enemy buffs with her second active skill and make herself tanky with her last passive.
• But you'll need to get her beyond Level 161 to get the best value out of her (because the Level 3 version of her first skill also debuffs the CRIT RES of 3 enemies).
Minasumari • With enough investment, Minasumari becomes a useful attacker who can specialize in taking down Sniper witches like Cordie. She also gets an up to 100% ATK boost whenever an ally is defeated.
Kaguya • Can be a good attacker by way of her increased Counter damage and paired with characters that can provide her any form of protection (such as a shield). When she's inflicted with a debuff from an enemy's active skill, she can also debuff their ATK and PM. DEF Break (potentially blunting damage from the likes of Cordie, who can debuff her DEF and then attack).

B Tier Characters

Character Tier Placement Reasoning
Illya • Illya is useful only because of her ability to inflict the Faint debuff for 2 turns on a single enemy, making her useful for boss battles where keeping them fainted could spell the difference between winning the fight or not.
Iris • Iris can serve as your main damage dealer for the very early game while you're still playing around with MementoMori's systems. Since she can hit multiple enemies in one turn, she'll most likely be the last R character you'll replace once you start using more and more SR characters.
Sabrina • Sabrina could've been a good attacker, but she does not have any ATK self-buffs; instead, she has a DEF self-buff that depends on whether she makes 4 critical hits, on top of other skills that don't synergize well with what her role is supposed to be.
• However, she can deal SPD debuffs to enemies and still deal decent damage in the early game.
Freesia • Freesia is a good healer that's supposed to keep your allies alive. However, with how fast battles in MementoMori's PvE can go, she is never alive long enough for the party to benefit from her EVD and DEF buffs and heals unless she's paired with tankier witches.
Olivia • Olivia gives decent ATK buffs, but you'll have to make sure her own ATK stat is high with runes and equipment (since her buffs scale with her ATK stat).
• Olivia can also protect your allies with a Shield that cuts up to 40% of the damage she deals (again, scaling with her ATK stat).
• She also has a debuff ability that cuts an enemy's attack if she receives a critical hit from them.
Tropon • Tropon is a witch that can deal good damage, though it's hampered by how she needs to use her first skill over and over again to buff up her ATK (in battle, she would be defeated long before she can even use her skill a second time.
• It may be good to pair her with witches that can decrease her skill cooldown, although you may be better off getting another attacker that can deal just as much (or even more damage) with less setup involved.
Amour • Amour works similarly to Amleth in that she can survive lethal hits and carry on the battle even if the rest of the party has been wiped out, though she doesn't have Amleth's ATK buff that scales with the number of defeated allies.
• However, Amour still can inflict the 'Blight' debuff on her enemies, which makes them unable to get healed.
Morgana • A magic attacker that attacks four enemies at a time with her skills. She also has a 50% of inflicting [Fainted] on enemies. Her passive buffs increase her CRIT and ATK stats, as well as regenerate her HP.
Fenny • Good debuffer and secondary attacker with her ability to stop the enemy from getting buffs with her active skill, Magic Permeator. This makes her great to bring along against enemies who would get heavily buffed the longer the battle goes on.
• However, she's hampered by the fact that she has to remain alive until the third turn to unlock her full potential.
Liselotte • A magic attacker that hits multiple enemies at once with her attacks. She also has an up to 50% chance to inflict [Faint] on enemies as well, making her a good offensive debuffer.
Claudia • In PvE, Claudia's lack of multi-hit skills makes her otherwise strong attacks less useful compared to other, more capable attackers in this game mode.
Gil’uial • Both her Active Skills have a chance to inflict Silence on enemies, and her chance to inflict them increases if she's afflicted by a debuff.
• She also gets protection in the form of multi-barriers once leveled up properly.
Winter Tropon • A support unit that steals enemy stats and dispels enemy buffs, Winter Tropon is an alright unit for PvE, though there are non-limited SR units that can do what she does just fine.
• These include a 20% chance to inflict Faint on the entire enemy party, Shields for herself, and a Debuff ACC boost.
Sonya • Another limited SR unit with single-target skills. Not too useful for PvE, though she does have party-wide ATK and HP buffs.
Valeriede • Potent attacker with her own ATK buffs, but her active skills are all single-target, which is not optimal for PvE, especially in the main quest.
Veela • Another limited SR unit that would be nice if you happened to have them, though not essential to get for PvE. Veela has ATK and SPD debuffs, ACC buffs, and Shields, but other non-limited units can already do those things.
Chiffon • A good support unit in PvE that will act as a healer, buffer, and debuffer all in one. Chiffon can boost your entire party's DEF, give them shields, boost their ATK, and heal them, all while inflicting Sleep debuffs on her enemies, making her good to have in a PvE party.
Lea • Lea has powerful attacks on top of a very high chance to inflict a Faint debuff even with just a single copy of her. However, she can only attack one unit at a time, which is not optimal in PvE where you have to take out multiple enemies at once. She would be better in PvP than in PvE.
Stella • Similar to Lea, Stella has powerful attacks coupled with the ability to inflict Silence (which could prevent enemies from using very dangerous skills), but she can only hit single targets.
Artie • Artie can be a potent support witch with her CRIT RES buffs keeping her safe from critical hits, HP increases, as well as her M. DEF debuffs for enemies. But unless you're going to get her to LR rarity anyway, you're better off using other units to deal damage and debuff your enemies in PvE.
Witch Illya • A potentially powerful retaliator that needs a specific team composition to be truly effective. Illya can deal massive amounts of damage to her enemies, but she needs to wait for her party to take 10 hits so that her 'God's Curse Unleashed' buff kicks in. Once it does, however, there's a good chance that the opposing party will be defeated by her 'God Curses the Light' skill with no cooldown.
• She'll also need more investment than other limited SR units since she's a Chaos soul witch.
Priscilla • Priscilla is essentially a tankier version of Fortina in that they're both combat healers who can boost their allies' defenses. In Priscilla's case, she can boost her allies' Debuff RES, as well as heal their HP equal to 50% of her ATK. But you will have to improve her ATK to make that healing worthwhile, which could use up resources that you would better suit your main attacker instead.
Richesse • Richesse would be a more useful unit in PvP than PvE solely because of her defensive buffs targeting the slowest unit in your party (who would most likely be another one of your supporting witches rather than your main attacker).
Summer Moddey • Similar to Moddey, Summer Moddey's skills work better the longer the battle goes (since she would've been able to poison most enemies, which then activates the rest of her skills like increased ATK, more attacks made per poisoned enemy, and decreased damage taken). She could be useful for Guild Raids and PvP, though in PvE, it's a lot fuzzier.
• Her ability to absorb the ATK of her poisoned enemies could be useful in late Main Quest stages and potentially make her a main attacker that deals very heavy damage (since most enemies in the late game will out-level a player's party and have massive stats by comparison, so even a 15% ATK absorption would be a big boost), but more testing is needed on our part.
• Her banner also hasn't been rerun as of recently, so it will be tough for new players to get copies of her.
Alexandra • Though her active skills let her deal both decent damage as well as damage over time with her Bleed debuff, she still needs high-level gear to be of any use. This means players who don't spend much in the game won't be able to tap into her full potential, and those who can spend more will find that it would be more worth it to give good gear to other attackers instead.

C Tier Characters

Character Tier Placement Reasoning
Monica • Aside from being an N rarity character, Monica is only good for healing. Her healing, however, scales with her ATK, which means you'll have to gear her up with equipment that could go to other witches instead.
Charlotte • Debuffs her enemy's ATK by 20% for 2 turns on top of the damage she already deals with her attacks.
Garmr • Her skills have low ATK value, though she can deal a 20% SPD debuff. Better to use Sabrina instead.
Shizu • Very weak physical attacks.
Zara • Zara is like a budget Sabrina in that she can deal decent damage and SPD debuffs. But that's on top of inflicting Faint on her enemies.
• Also gets a 20% damage cut when she goes below 30% HP, though depending on her build, she might end up straight-up getting defeated in 1 hit.
Loki • Can inflict Silence on enemies, but other higher rarity witches already do the same thing.
Arianrhod • Needs a bit of setup to apply her damage multiplier (you need other witches that inflict debuffs on enemies), but there are higher rarity witches that already do that (like Rusalka).
Theodora • Another witch that debuffs enemy DEF, but party-wide, though the rest of her skills are not really impressive and depend on her being decently equipped (since the damage of her Bleed scales with her ATK stat.
Petra • Petra is like Dian in that they have to deal damage to themselves to deal any kind of decent damage to their enemies, which just results in them getting defeated faster than usual.
Rosalie • Rosalie has surprisingly high damage for a witch of her rarity, dealing damage that's equivalent to 420% of her ATK while granting her an invulnerability buff. But she has no ATK self-buffs that can increase that damage, and you're better off bringing along other witches that are worth equipping with runes and gear.
Libra • What's unique about Libra is that she has a skill (Lovestruck Frenzy) that can shave off half of the DEF of 3 enemies. However, the rest of her skills are underpowered. If you're looking for someone who can debuff DEF in a pinch and don't have another witch, maybe you can consider using her.
Skuld • She's an alright healer, though you'll have to invest in her MAG to make it more effective. Better to invest in Freesia instead.
Cherna • Can inflict both Faint and Bleed on her enemies, though only for 1 turn. Illya can be a better unit to inflict Faint with.
Soteira • She has some use because of her SPD debuffs, but you can just use Sabrina and have better results.
Hathor • Hathor is good to field when you're up against bosses or enemies that can deal a lot of damage. Her skill, Dance of the Butterflies, can halve the enemy's ATK stat, which could help your team survive what could've been a devastating hit.
• However, her passive skill 'Dreaming Dancer' needs her to stay unscathed for three turns - which rarely happens. Her other passive, Dance of the Sands, can increase her chance to inflict 'Faint' debuffs on the enemy, though you'll need to invest in her to make it effective.
Ivy • Ivy can deal a lot of damage to her enemies if she's in a party that will grant her a lot of buffs. Her active skill, 'Playing With Dolls♪,' increases the number of attacks she makes the more buffs she has.
• She also buffs her own ATK if an ally is defeated, increasing the damage she deals.
Moddey • Moddey would've been a potent witch in the game if only PvE battles in the game didn't end so quickly. She could inflict both Poison and Blight debuffs on her enemies, on top of countering them with her Counter-Shift buff as well as her ATK and CRIT chance self-buffs. But her full potential still takes a few turns to activate, on top of heavy investment.
